Our History

As a ministry of Pacific Christian Center (PCC), Pacific Christian School (PCS) has been offering a faith-based Christian Education to students in the Santa Maria Valley for several decades. During the COVID-2019 pandemic, there were 188 students enrolled at PCS. This was due in part to the six-foot distancing requirement imposed by the Governor of California when students returned to school in the fall of 2020. You may remember that all public and private schools were closed the previous spring. In the fall of 2020 PCS quickly was granted a waiver from distance learning and students were able to return to the campus for in-person learning. PCS finished the 2019/20 school year providing distance or at-home learning remotely to students kindergarten through sixth grade. Thankfully, students were able to return to school campus in the fall of 2020.

In 2022 PCS brought back its middle school program. Today there are 126 students in grades six through eight with six full-time teachers providing instruction and support to our Middle School students. An active extra-curricular program offers middle school students an opportunity to participate in Chapel Band, music and drama productions as well as a competitive sports program for boys and girls. Cross-country, volleyball, basketball and track are offered each year. There is an active chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) involved at PCS allowing students to share their faith experiences from the sports field.

The school became Accredited in the fall of 2022 earning a dual accreditation with both the Association of Christian Schools International and the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school earned the highest term possible and will be eligible for renewal in 2030.

There have been many changes at PCS over the past seven years including the following: One-to-One Chromebook for every student, Smartboards in every classroom,  addition of two new portable classrooms, upgrade of basin to include a grass field, changing rooms, equipment storage, and fitness equipment for middle school. An upgraded and licensed commercial kitchen in Palmer Hall allows nutritious lunches to be offered daily to students. New security fencing, new green screens to limit visibility to playground, additional cameras, and a volunteer security team were added to enhance campus safety. Most recently there have been additional renovations and upgrades which include the following: a fully renovated auditorium with new carpet, fully painted walls, new roof, new stage with LED lights, new sound and media system with wall-size screen on stage; fresh landscaping between buildings and the front of the school; restoration of Palmer Hall, our multipurpose building, with new carpet, freshly painted walls, new sound and media system, new stage and lighting. This summer four of our classrooms will be receiving a fresh start with new carpet.

PCS has come a long way since its founding. During the early years PCS offered a Pre-School and Kindergarten program. Then each year the school added a grade level until it offered a full elementary school education K-6 in 1985. PCS has also moved a couple of times until finally settling on the current 12.75-acre facility in Santa Maria. During the years ACSI membership has provided on-going support to the school through its professional development conventions, student activities program, accreditation process, district administrative meetings, Purposeful Design Publishing, and other services. PCS looks forward to a tremendous future as we honor our past and continue to partner with parents to “reach the heart and educate the mind.”
